Varsity Cavemen Lose to Niles Vikings 6-2 in 10 Innings

Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen Defeated By Niles Varsity Vikings By GameChanger Media Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen lost to Niles Varsity Vikings 6-2 on Thursday at Mishawaka High School Ward Baker Park. Niles Varsity Vikings got on the board in the first inning after Brenden Olsen hit a solo home run to left field. Niles Varsity Vikings added one run in the second after Bryce Zache singled to left field. Niles Varsity Vikings dropped a third strike, which helped Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen tie the game at two in the bottom of the seventh. In the top of the tenth, Niles Varsity Vikings broke up the tie when Braylon Schultz singled, scoring two runs. Then a home run to left field by Olsen followed to extend the lead to 6-2. Brady Fletcher earned the win for Niles Varsity Vikings. The reliever gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none. Braedyn Smith took the loss for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The hurler went two innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on three hits, striking out three and walking two. Noah Deeds began the game for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six and walking two. Jaxen Racht started the game for Niles Varsity Vikings. The right-handed pitcher surrendered one hit and two runs (zero earned) over eight innings, striking out 15 and walking one. Brady Hoopingarner went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen turned one double play in the game. Olsen provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Niles Varsity Vikings with three runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-2 on the day. Olsen, Zache, and Dane Asmus each collected two hits for Niles Varsity Vikings. Olsen led Niles Varsity Vikings with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Niles Varsity Vikings turned one double play in the game.
