By GameChanger Media Landon Johns collected three hits in four at bats, as Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen defeated South Bend Riley Varsity Wildcats 18-0 on Saturday. Johns singled in the third inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the second inning. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen scored 10 runs in the second inning on the way to victory. Shawn Nowacki drew a walk, scoring one run, Noah Deeds singled, scoring two runs, Kamdon Putz hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Brady Hoopingarner singled, scoring two runs, Jayden Pyle drew a walk, scoring one run, Liam Wolf induced Maddux Kuhnle to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Nowacki doubled, scoring two runs. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen got on the board in the top of the first inning after Putz doubled down the left field line, and Putz stole home, each scoring one run. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Hoopingarner hit a sacrifice fly, Johns singled down the left field line, and South Bend Riley Varsity Wildcats committed an error, each scoring one run. Gunnar Eby (1-0) earned the win for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The southpaw gave up two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking four. Gavin Stephens took the loss for South Bend Riley Varsity Wildcats. The hurler went one inning, giving up seven runs (six earned) on three hits, striking out one and walking three. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen collected 11 hits in the game. Nowacki and Hoopingarner each drove in three runs for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Putz and Kuhnle each collected multiple hits for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Pyle paced Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Kuhnle stole two bases. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen stole nine bases in the game. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen didn't commit a single error in the field. Pyle had the most chances in the field with six.
