By GameChanger Media Even though Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen collected 11 hits to Mishawaka Marian Junior Varsity Knights's seven, they still fell 9-8 on Tuesday at Mishawaka High School Ward Baker Park. Jack Taylor, Xavier Mercado, and Andrew Toney each collected two hits for Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen. Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen fought back after falling down by seven runs in the third inning. The comeback fell just short though. Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen closed the gap by scoring on a single, a single, a walk, a hit by pitch, a walk, and a single. Mishawaka Marian Junior Varsity Knights got on the board in the top of the first inning after Camden Derda walked, and Liam Spence grounded out, each scoring one run. A single by Lucas Martin, and a double by Parker Mrozinski helped Mishawaka Marian Junior Varsity Knights extend their early lead in the second. Mishawaka Marian Junior Varsity Knights added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Hunter Scheu singled, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, and a steal of home scored one run. Eric Unwin earned the win for Mishawaka Marian Junior Varsity Knights. The starting pitcher allowed eight hits and three runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking three. Taylor pitched four innings in relief for Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen. The pitcher surrendered one hit and zero runs while, striking out three and walking none. Chase Semak took the loss for Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen. The right-handed pitcher went one and one-third innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on two hits, striking out one and walking five. Spence earned the save. Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen accumulated 11 hits in the game. Mercado led Mishawaka Junior Varsity Cavemen with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Aiden Rogers stole two bases. Martin went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Number nine hitter, Scheu, showed the depth of Mishawaka Marian Junior Varsity Knights's lineup, by leading them with two hits in two at bats. Brady Harrison paced Mishawaka Marian Junior Varsity Knights with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game. Derda, Martin, and Peyton Dillon each stole multiple bases for Mishawaka Marian Junior Varsity Knights. Mishawaka Marian Junior Varsity Knights stole 12 bases in the game.
